 An impact assessment of official development assistance: empirical evidence from IndiaAshwani Bishnoi International Journal of Business and Globalisation, 2023, vol. 33, issue 4, 497-513 Abstract: The roles of foreign aid in economic growth through enhanced investment, technology transfer, human resource development, etc., have been well attested by existing literature. However, the extent to which foreign aid contributes to infrastructure has been overlooked in the literature. The, present study intends to capture the impact of official development assistance (ODA) on economic and social infrastructure of India. The study considers the specific case of the UK and Japanese ODA being active supporters of two forms of infrastructure in India. The results suggest that these two countries' ODA play significant role in shaping the economic infrastructure of India. Intensity of impact is more tuned to the UK's ODA compared to Japanese ODA. The study also evidences that less effectiveness of governance and poor regulation hamper the pace of infrastructure development in the country. Towards social infrastructure, this study provides evidence of strong impact of the UK's ODA in economic development of India.
