International Journal of Business and Globalisation, 2023, vol. 34, issue 2, 252-264

Abstract: Tourism is one of the most important sectors in the global economy and has been gaining momentum in the last several years, both in developed countries as well as emerging economies. The aim of this article is, by means of a bibliometric analysis and using a fractional counting method, to identify articles related to global tourism and economics in the indexed articles within the WoS and Scopus databases. In terms of the number of documents, 1,720 articles were found on WoS and 2,724 on Scopus. The research also shows the evolution in the number of articles published on this theme, the most influential countries in terms of published articles, the most relevant organisations, and the most prolific authors and journals. It also analyses the most recent research trends, including methodologies of growing interest related to tourist motivation, improved management, pricing policy or the planning of large events.
