Will the 'Scandinavian leadership model' survive the forces of globalisation? A swot analysis

International Journal of Business and Globalisation, 2011, vol. 7, issue 3, 332-350
Abstract:
The main purpose of this paper is to shed some light on the Scandinavian leadership model – what it is perceived to be and the degree to which it will withstand the converging forces of globalisation. A theoretical discussion of culture-based leadership and of the convergence-divergence theories is the focus of the first part of the paper. The empirical part describes the results of a SWOT analysis of the Scandinavian leadership model as evaluated by an international set of executives. The results of the study reveal that Scandinavian and non-Scandinavian managers have somewhat different views on the strengths and weaknesses of the Scandinavian leadership model. However, their views on the perceived threats and opportunities are similar.
