International Journal of Business Innovation and Research, 2024, vol. 33, issue 3, 368-399

Abstract: This research examined the impact of the leadership styles on employee performance, commitment, and satisfaction as well as the mediating effect of employee satisfaction. A sample of 304 Malaysian IT employees was selected using simple random probability sampling. Data was analysed using structural equation modelling via AMOS 22. The result shows that both leadership styles have significant effects on employee performance, commitments, and satisfaction. Also, we found that democratic leadership has significantly positive effect on performance, commitment, and satisfaction, while laissez-faire leadership style has significantly negative effects on employee performance, commitment, and satisfaction. Furthermore, we found that satisfaction has no mediating effects on the relationship between leadership styles, commitment, and performance. Therefore, we concluded that cultivating democratic leadership style will enhances employee performance, commitments, and satisfaction. Implication of research was discussed.
