Kari Sahlman and Harri Haapasalo

International Journal of Business Innovation and Research, 2011, vol. 5, issue 2, 142-158

Abstract: Turbulent economic environment and rapidly developing technologies induce major challenge for companies to manage their strategic technological capabilities. In this paper, the objectives of strategic management of technology are discovered as elements in a conceptual framework. Grounded theory is used for the formation of the elements based on strategic decisions of a large enterprise. The elements are classified as product offering, value chain, technology assets, productivity, internal policies and industry relations related objectives enabled by technology. Conforming to conceptions of strategic management, the framework is suggested to provide structure and clarity for practitioners and scholars for application and elaboration.
