Abstract:
Currently, the global community has been aggressive in attaining Total Quality Management (TQM) strategies by implementing ISO 9001:2000 standard. Besides being a favourable situation for achieving the objectives of TQM, this situation opens avenues for leveraging the effectiveness of the continuous quality improvement journey. Amongst them is the integration of information systems with ISO 9001:2000 standard. This paper reports a module of a major research project, which is being carried out to fulfill this imperative. This module of research work has been carried out by developing an information system for the fifth clause of ISO 9001:2000 standard. This clause enumerates the management responsibility towards enhancing the effectiveness of ISO 9001:2000 based quality management system. After designing the information system of this clause, an implementation study was conducted in an Indian high technology oriented small size company. The experiences gained by conducting this implementation study were used to develop a roadmap for implementing this information system.
