Exploring the antecedents of co-creation in hospital-supplier relationship: an empirical study on private sector hospitals in India

Abstract:
Criticality of healthcare has always been a matter of huge concern. With increasing focus towards value-based patient-care service, hospitals are struggling between continuously spiralling cost and providing increased access to quality care-services. Interactions and relationships among the hospital stakeholders have become very crucial, especially in hospital-supplier relationships. Extant literature has thrown light on interaction, systematic orchestration and collaborative ambience as essential needs for achieving value co-creation. The current study analyses the antecedents of co-creation in hospital-supplier relationship context from a service-dominant-logic (SD-logic) perspective. The study is further underpinned with theories like relational-view and relational-coordination-theory. In this empirical research, the relational antecedents of co-creation have been validated. This study further establishes the well-known DART framework (dialogue-access-risk assessment-transparency) linkages with trust, commitment and care-service orchestration (CSO) as antecedents to co-creation activities based on 229 responses from private tertiary-care Indian hospitals using structural equation modelling (SEM).
