Investigating employees' perception of the security of medical data: an empirical analysis from India

Abstract:
A large number of organisations are now considering medical data of employees as critical organisational information. Hence, these organisations are mandating their employees to submit medical checkups and health reports. This information is generally stored in electronic form within the organisation. The current study aims at analysing the perception of employees regarding issues surrounding the security of medical data in Indian organisations. A closed-ended questionnaire has been deployed to collect the responses. The respondents include employees of companies operating in the healthcare, telecom and information technology industries in India. The questionnaire was circulated in the physical and electronic mode. Convenience sampling has been deployed in order to select the respondents. The final sample includes responses from 372 respondents. Exploratory factor analysis has been utilised to obtain the factors considered relevant for analysing perceptions towards medical data security. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) has been deployed to test whether the various measures of different constructs are in accordance with their theoretical understanding. The interpretation and managerial implications have also been discussed.
