Examining the effect of lecturers' demographic variables on the challenges facing the use of e-learning in a university context

Abstract: This study examines the effect of the lecturers' demographic variables on the challenges of e-learning which expected to affect the individuals' use of e-learning in any educational institution. A quantitative design was employed, and 107 lecturers in a public university in Yemen responded the survey-based questionnaire. An inferential statistic was used to identify any significant differences between the four challenges of using e-learning and the demographic variables of the participants. Based on the findings, the effects of lecturers' demographic background on the four main challenges of using e-learning with regards to the course, technological, organisational, and personal challenges were determined. Results showed some individual demographic differences in terms of the significant effects of course, technological, and organisational challenges. The results imply that university decision-makers must be aware of the lecturers' demographic background that has effects on the use of e-learning at the university. Theoretical contributions and practical implications based on the findings are discussed.
