International Journal of Business Information Systems, 2025, vol. 48, issue 2, 248-266

Abstract: Given the pace of technological developments, the HR function is acquiring an IT-enabled strategic posture embedded in the corporate management information system with a variety of platforms and uses. Human resources and information are the prime resources for the success of any organisation in a dynamic business environment. Human resources are changing its face from an operational routine task to a strategic one. This has bestowed responsibility on human resource information system (HRIS) to change its face from a mere administrative facilitator to a decision supporting tool. This paper examines the impact of perceived barriers and benefits on the extent of implementation of HRIS in Indian companies and attempts to highlight the perception of HR managers and staff towards the adoption of HRIS. Analysis of the survey results on Indian companies reveals that active involvement of the HR practitioners, adequate training, and change of attitude to consider HRIS as strategic business activity can significantly improve the efficiency of organisations.
