Abstract:
Intense global competition is forcing corporations to examine different strategies for developing new capabilities. Strategic alliances allow firms to refresh their competitive strategies in response to globalisation. Presently the number of strategic alliances is growing. In this paper, several categorisations of strategic alliances are reviewed. Based on these categorisations, a new perspective on coordination viewpoint for strategic alliance is proposed. The goal, activity, actors, and interdependence in an alliance are defined. For selecting the type of alliance, the concept of an MTM space is introduced.
