A case of competence development

Abstract:
This paper is concerned with the issues of developing the competencies of the firm and, in particular, how such a development can be measured in order to manage the learning processes of the development. The relevance of this work is based on the conclusion that competencies are dynamic, rather than stable, entities and that firms, thus, need to focus both on today's and tomorrow's competencies. A model for competence development as a result of organisational learning processes is proposed. The model and the paper as such, however, raise the question of how to understand progress in competence development and how to measure competence development. Therefore, the paper concludes with a discussion of how to measure competence development.
