A longitudinal and comparative study for career orientations dynamics of information systems professionals

Abstract: This research conducted a longitudinal study to investigate the career orientations of Information Systems (IS) professionals for 2002 and 2006 to determine patterns and similarities. Survey data were collected from IS professionals at two separate times. The results of this study showed that IS professionals' career orientations had stayed stable in Taiwan. They tended to have high needs for organisational stability, service and variety. Organisational stability was the most important career anchor for IS professionals and technical competence was rated the lowest. Comparisons between the orientations of Taiwanese IS professionals and a previous sample of US IS professionals showed differences.
