Entrepreneurship: theoretical considerations

Woodrow W. Clark Jr., Olav Jull Sorensen

International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, 2002, vol. 2, issue 1, 17-37

Abstract: Entrepreneurship by its very nature concerns activity and action on the part of people to create new ventures. While much has been written about entrepreneurial needs such as a business plan, accounting, and raising capital, little has been written exploring the theoretical context of entrepreneurship. Furthermore, little is known about how to provide a philosophical context for teaching the practical everyday tools and skills to people aspiring to be entrepreneurs. The paper explores these issues whilst drawing upon some traditional economic theory and combining it with theoretical perspectives from linguistics and networks. The combination is an integrated theoretical perspective that argues for a qualitative approach to entrepreneurship. With such a philosophical construct, entrepreneurial activities and the people behind them can be better understood.
