Tower crane selection for an industrial project: case study

P. Valli, C. Antony Jeyasehar and R. Dhanaraj

International Journal of Engineering Management and Economics, 2013, vol. 4, issue 1, 84-97

Abstract: This paper aims at illustrating the uses of tower crane as important equipment for a high-structured commercial complex. The decision to use a tower crane is relatively easy one since the determining conditions are simple. The use of tower cranes required thorough planning because of their structures, foundations and presence. The application of type, size and number should also be considered. The characteristics of various types available must be considered against the requirements imposed by the loads to be handled and the site conditions. Weights, dimensions and lift radius of the heaviest and largest loads must also taken into consideration for the utility of tower cranes.

Keywords: tower cranes; tower crane selection; dimensions; crane types; load requirements; site conditions; weight; lift radius. (search for similar items in EconPapers)
