Current practices of building information modelling in Egypt

Abstract: This paper reports the findings of research intended to document the current status of adoption and use of building information modelling (BIM) in the Egyptian construction industry. This study utilised an online survey which was sent to 120 contracting firms and 10 consultancy offices in Egypt. The response rate was 17.2% of the total firms included in the survey which may be explained that the majority of current construction practitioners know little or nothing about BIM. Findings of the research revealed that BIM is expanding within the construction industry and practitioners think it is the future while moving to sustainable buildings. The research findings urge the need to provide more information to the industry regarding the benefits of BIM technology. Government doesn't promote the utilisation of BIM in public work.
