MTech-information science: a new age proposed programme and its requirement with SWOT analysis in Indian educational context

Abstract: Information science (IS) is one important domain which is information focused and technology depended. Information science is an interdisciplinary field combines with so many domains which has direct and indirect connection of information, knowledge, and content. Information science is treated as valuable domain for information infrastructure building which including public information system, organisation information systems, and educational information systems building. Information science is a computing allied domain and its importance is gaining rapidly due to advantage of information management. Information science actually comes with MS/MSc degree with flagship programme and in India to such courses are available. Information science treated as valuable domain of applied science and still this subject is not offered as engineering degree or in other engineering programme faculty. Thus, in this paper, some aspects of information science is illustrated briefly; which including characteristics, need, value and domain. However, this paper is especially designed to give an idea of MTech-information science and highlights possibilities of this programme in Indian educational and more clearly engineering learning context.
