Policy making in India for rural development: data base and indicators for transparency and accountability

V.M. Rao

International Journal of Economic Policy in Emerging Economies, 2010, vol. 3, issue 3, 222-236

Abstract: Rural areas and people have lagged seriously in growth and development in India. There is an urgent need to bring transparency and accountability in policy making for rural development. This paper offers a framework for tracking the processes linking development strategy to achievement of development goals. The data base and indicators suggested in this paper could be of help in monitoring the performance of the policy maker and in making the policies more effective by improving the transparency of implementation processes.
