Intrapreneuriality and the perceived autonomy indicators

International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, 2010, vol. 10, issue 3, 324-338

Abstract: Intrapreneurs are often presented as a single class in the literature. However, some researchers have suggested that intrapreneurial behaviour within organisations should be separated by level. This paper studies a sample of 121 employees in 8 Moroccan firms of various sizes operating in different sectors. We suggest an 'intrapreneuriality indicator' that measures the intrapreneurial predisposition of employees along with a 'perceived organisational autonomy indicator' to assess the extent to which the organisational context is conducive or not to the innovative initiatives of employees. Our findings support the existence of different intrapreneurial profiles, but indicate that the organisational context takes precedence over the intrapreneurial predisposition of employees.
