Abstract:
This paper examines the modes of entrepreneurship in the USA by examining the determinants of an individual's decision to establish a new entrepreneurial business and how this is different from acquiring an existing entrepreneurial business or engaging in an entrepreneurial franchise. We develop a logistic regression model to examine the various determinants of starting a new entrepreneurial business from scratch. Our analysis indicates that age, work experience, hours worked per week, education and race have statistically significant impact on the likelihood of starting a new business from scratch as compared to other modes of entry.
