International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, 2015, vol. 24, issue 4, 474-491

Abstract: This study provides answers about the initiatives for ISO14001 implementation, constraints during the certification process and modification in the organisational management system (OMS) after ISO14001 implementation. Key reasons for ISO14001 implementation are: improvement of the environmental performance, improved compliance with government regulations, increased competitive and advertising opportunities. Most of the enterprises in Macedonia have achieved the cost savings through the ISO14001 implementation. There are moderate constraints during certification in terms of the lack of staff to implement ISO14001 and the annual maintenance of the costs of the ISO14001. The most significant modifications in OMS under the influence of ISO14001 are made in: marketing and public relations, orders, requests from suppliers and advertising strategy. ANOVA method as a computational tool is suggested for making a comparative analysis in decision making. This study is important to encourage other enterprises to consider the option of implementing ISO14001 in their environmental management system (EMS).
