International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, 2017, vol. 31, issue 2, 227-243

Abstract: An entrepreneur is one who possesses unique competencies, such as risk taking ability, creative orientation, leadership potential, and resourceful nature that help in generating an idea and commercialising it for the use of masses. In order to develop and augment any venture, competency on varied domains is essential, as the person must have personal and social skills along with ability in managing and capitalising all opportunities. In this study, we will examine the role of different competencies-personal, social, managerial, and entrepreneurial, towards assisting women entrepreneurs in the initiation and growth of an enterprise. With the help of open-ended questions, data has been collected through in-depth interviews from women entrepreneurs of different regions across India. The findings of the study provide assistance in framing promotional programmes and policies for encouraging women entrepreneurs in the future endeavour.
