International Journal of Environmental Technology and Management, 2010, vol. 13, issue 2, 206-220

Abstract: The high cost ultra-filtration methods normally employed for the treatment of Spent Cutting Fluids (SCFs) has forced to develop effective technology for environmental pollution management. The authors have proposed the use of agro based products such as arhar stem (cajanus cazan), rice husk, bagasse and saw dust in modified and unmodified form as adsorbents for removal of oil from water based SCFs, replacing costly activated carbon. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied and the results were used to select and grade the adsorbents. The results have also been compared with the experimental results of the batch adsorption studies.

Keywords: adsorbent materials; batch adsorption; AHP; analytical hierarchy process; SCF; spent cutting fluids; metal machining; environmental pollution; arhar stem; cajanus cazan; rice husks; bagasse; sawdust; oil removal; water based SCFs; activated carbon. (search for similar items in EconPapers)
