Transport and the environment in Dutch research and policy-making

Abstract: This paper reviews five recently completed Dutch studies on transport and the environment that played a role in policy-making processes. All studies are scenario studies, most of them on forecasting and one of them a back-casting study. The studies give a good overview of the current state-of-the-art in research on transport and the environment at the national level. The paper also gives suggestions for future research on transport and the environment: for example, more research on international shipping, the interactions between transport and the rest of the society and the benefits of transportation, is needed.
