Ultrasonic removal of cyanobacteria

Abstract:
This paper studies the ultrasonic removal of cyanobacteria. The results show that ultrasound is an effective way to reduce the water turbidity and to damage chlorophyll a, the antenna complex. Furthermore, 55% of the cyanobacteria were removed after 5 min treatment and no rebound was observed after 3 h. The ultrasonic cyanobacteria removal followed a pseudo first-order reaction and the rate constant was 0.173/min. The optimal working power was 20 W, and extra power input brought in little benefit.
