Studies on the potential role of different energy sources in the 21st century

Lev S. Belyaev, Sergei P. Filippov, Oleg V. Marchenko, Vladimir N. Tyrtyshnyi

International Journal of Global Energy Issues, 2002, vol. 17, issue 4, 311-326

Abstract: The paper describes studies on long-term energy development using the 10-region World Energy Model. Several scenarios of external conditions for energy development are considered. Special attention is paid to the influence of constraints on CO2 emissions and moratorium on nuclear energy use. Terms of depletion of cheap non-renewable energy resources and introduction of synthetic fuels as well as the potential role of nuclear energy (including breeders), power from space and other renewables are investigated. The period till the year 2100 is considered and certain methodological innovations are proposed.
