Structured retrieval of export performance: a bibliometric study

Abstract: Over the past 60 years, export performance studies have grown in prominence, although comprehensive chronological research is scarce. Bibliometrics was utilised to analyse 986 Scopus entries from March 23, 2022, to summarise 65 years of social science export research to close this gap. Using Harzing's Publish or Perish and VOSviewer, it reveals that within 2006 to 2022, there was a consistent and substantial annual growth in export performance research and it reached its peak in 2017. The trend indicated that the research was carried out by multiple authors in various languages, with innovation, competitiveness, internationalisation, and market orientation being the most influential factors affecting export. The current study's findings aim to provide guidance to scholars and practitioners for future research and offer pragmatic advice and observations to corporations, policymakers, and parties involved in global commerce. This will assist them in making well-informed decisions, minimising risks, and maximising global market opportunities.
