 Inter-linkages between human development and economic growth: a sustainable development analysis across Indian statesSheetal Mundra and Manju Singh International Journal of Indian Culture and Business Management, 2017, vol. 15, issue 2, 183-205 Abstract: The Five Year Plans have generally been the fountainheads of policy for growth and sustainable development in India. This study explores the success of Indian experience of sustainable development through Five Year Plans by examining the difference between planned and achieved growth rates of all Five Years Plans in India and of Tenth and Eleventh Five Year Plans across the different states of India. As the Human Development Index is one of the most important indicators of sustainable development, so, this study examines the impact of the growth (GSDP) on an HDI score for selective states of India and also tries to explore the disparities among different Indian states on selective HDI indicators. The poor performance and disparities of the human indicators across the states highlight the fact that economic benefits arising out of the process of development failed in raising the human development in India and across the states.
