Stress-related antecedents of teacher performance: case of the Indian educational system

Abstract: This paper presents an examination of key stress antecedents of teacher performance in India. A review of literature of key constructs of stress is made with the aim of developing relevant hypotheses for home, work and health stressors. The impact of these three stressors on teacher performance is studied. Results with respect to instrument validation as well as testing of hypotheses are presented, followed by a discussion of underlying factors for the results. Finally, this paper concludes with a discussion of findings of questionnaire development and hypotheses testing in the light of implications for practicing managers of the educational system.
