Abstract:
Cognitive radios (CR) have emerged as a promising physical layer candidate for 5G and future wireless systems. CR networks use the licensed spectrum when it is not being used by the licensed users. In this paper, we investigate an energy efficiency optimisation problem in interweave or spectrum sensing cognitive systems. The aim is to maximise the energy efficiency by jointly selecting the sensing duration and detection threshold. The joint optimisation problem is a non- convex problem. Therefore, we formulate two sub-problems which are independent and by alternately iterating between the two problems, we can arrive at the optimal value. Simulation results show that the proposed formulation of the optimisation problem and its solution shows energy efficiency gains compared to the existing algorithms. Also, the computational complexity is considerably reduced compared to the optimal method.
