 A study on individualistic and collectivist factors inducing career choice of management students in IndiaNavneet Gera and Noopur Saxena International Journal of Innovation and Sustainable Development, 2022, vol. 16, issue 1, 32-48 Abstract: The study intends to find out the order of importance for factors that influence the career choice of students undergoing management course in India. The effect of individualistic factors as well as collectivist factors on student's decisions regarding career choice is analysed, along with the study of cultural values and career orientation. 120 management students who were from their first year, from management institutes in India were surveyed through a self-designed questionnaire. The findings of factor analysis suggest that individualistic capabilities consisting of skill competencies play key role in setting the direction for career choice. The next preference is student's own family members and social network and equally important is the role of institutional mentors in shaping their career. Finally, they look forward to the status and salary. The study recommends the need of training for faculty providing career guidance, to direct the youngsters undergoing management course.
