Abstract:
The manufacturing and service industries in developing countries have grown rapidly in the last few years. Most of the industries are equipped with large number of machines and equipments for which preventive maintenance (PM) is essential. To perform the maintenance activities, the facility manager, subordinates and customers need to track the status of the maintenance work on their assets and the associated costs of that work. This study proposes a model for PM management systems and develops the corresponding application database software supporting the proposed model. A case study is conducted in different industries to track the present status of the maintenance management and to select the features of the database software. The outcome of this research will benefit first and foremost the maintenance manager to manage the planning, day-to-day operations and maintenance activities.
