Functional architecture framework for instrumentation systems

Richard C. Millar and Kristin Giammarco

International Journal of Industrial and Systems Engineering, 2014, vol. 17, issue 4, 405-423

Abstract: This paper presents a tailored functional architecture framework to guide the definition of integrated instrumentation/sensor systems (incorporating communications media, interconnections and signal acquisition). The functional architecture framework defines a taxonomy for integrated instrumentation/sensor systems (ISS) and supports morphological variations on the functional elements. The ISS functional architecture framework focuses attention on the sensor system interfaces and transformations of the sensed parameters as the key to the definition and categorisation of new configurations and implementations of ISS.
