Fuzzy evaluation modelling to assess organisational agility

Abstract: Agility metrics seem difficult to properly define in general, mainly due to the multidimensionality and vagueness of the concept of agility itself; the extent of agility is nothing but a qualitative estimation. To address this issue, in this reporting, a systematic procedural framework defined agility enabler-attribute and criteria hierarchy has been proposed as a candidate solution for the assessment of organisational agility. The necessary expertise used to determine and measure individual agility parameters has been represented via fuzzy logic terminology that allows for human-like knowledge representation and reasoning. Using the concept of generalised trapezoidal fuzzy numbers set and their operational rules, an overall fuzzy agility index (FAI) has been computed. Agile criterions have been ranked in accordance with their degree of performance towards contributing organisational agility. Poorly performing criterions (agile barriers) have been identified as well. An example has demonstrated the feasibility and applicability of the proposed approach.
