Abstract: Implementing remanufacturing is certainly a challenge to the new industry in many developing countries since this most promising end of life recovery option requires products to be returned to 'as new' condition. The remanufacturing process requires specific knowledge, skill and the experience of the operators; hence the need for knowledge-based system to ensure an efficient reprocessing of the ELV components. For the purpose of this study, a prototype support system for the remanufacturing of brake callipers was developed. Knowledge and experience on the disassembly and reprocessing of brake callipers and the remanufacturing of ELV components in general are gathered from a case study in a local company involved in repairing of brake callipers. Based on knowledge gathered through interviews, observations and comparison with practices documented by established practitioners, a graphical user interface (GUI) support system for the remanufacturing of brake calliper was proposed.
