Performance analysis of two-loop closed systems based on the Markov model

International Journal of Industrial and Systems Engineering, 2011, vol. 9, issue 2, 195-212

Abstract: In this paper, a type of two-loop closed production system is described, which is found in semiconductor assembly line and some other system with (Constant Work In Process) CONWIP control policies. A Markov-based method is proposed to evaluate the performance of the general two-loop closed production systems. To alleviate the dimension explosion of the Markov model, an effective RG-factorisation methodology is applied to solve the problems. The details of the performance analysis process on a three-machine, two-loop closed production line with finite buffers are described. Numerical experiments are constructed and the conclusions that were drawn by analysing the experiments can be effectively used to help understand and improve the system performance.
