Abstract:
This paper presents a Decision Support System (DSS) for integrating tactical and operational decisions in a manufacturing system that is operated in a job shop environment. The system consists of a planning module, a scheduling module, a support database and graphical user interface. The key features are the inclusion of bills of materials and processes in the scheduling module and the option to freeze a part of the previous schedule to allow for multiple pass scheduling exercises. The rationale in designing, developing and implementing the system is discussed in this paper.
