Fostering intellectual capital through communication technologies: an analysis of knowledge-sharing determinants

Cataldo Dino Ruta and Ubaldo Macchitella

International Journal of Learning and Intellectual Capital, 2008, vol. 5, issue 2, 123-152

Abstract: Our paper investigates the relation between Intellectual Capital (IC) and knowledge sharing through Information and Communication Technology (ICT). In particular, we highlight how aspects related to the three dimensions of IC (namely the human, social and organisational capital) can influence the motivation of individuals to share their knowledge with other members within the organisation. Our results show that the willingness to share knowledge depends on the social capital if we consider the quantity of the knowledge being shared, while it depends on the human capital when we consider the quality of the knowledge being contributed to the organisational intranet.
