An analysis of the economic effect of spatial R&D knowledge spillovers

Abstract: Models are established in the paper according to the theory of knowledge economy, which considering time lag and spatial attenuation. Knowledge spillovers between provinces are scaled in China based on railway distance and a quantitative analysis is given on the economic effect of knowledge spillovers. Since knowledge spillovers have a cost, the effect of knowledge spillovers depends on the learning and absorptive capacity of the acceptor, there are relatively great differences in the contribution quota of knowledge spillovers between provinces, the peak of the knowledge spillover area is along the developed economic regions with a solid technological foundation and knowledge spillovers have a positive effect on the eastern provinces and have negative effect on most of the provinces of Middle and West China.
