Abstract:
Regional innovation system (RIS) is a regional system to support and create innovations. The paper analyses the organisational structure of Beijing regional innovation system, and presents its organisational structure characterised by industry-research cooperation, technology-industry alliance, gazelle enterprises, and enterprises established by overseas returned Chinese students. The paper also discusses the spatial distribution of Beijing innovation system in which Zhongguancun is the centre of innovation and radiating to the periphery forming a larger geographical stretch of regional innovation system. Specialised clusters of high-tech and traditional industries are emerging in Zhongguancun, and gradually a spillover space is also forming around Beijing regional innovation system.
