Green supply chain barriers analysis using interpretive structural modelling

Abstract: Industrialisation plays a major role in economic development, infrastructure, growth and prosperity of any country. But these industries are affecting our environment so badly which causes global warming, greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion, acid rain, pollution, etc. Due to these threats green supply chain management (GSCM) comes into picture. GSCM offers a possible solution to the problem by containing the pollution and losses considerably, thus affecting the overall operational efficiency of the practicing firm. This research paper makes an attempt to assess the barriers that were identified from extensive literature review and opinions invited from industry-experts that impede implementation of GSCM. A hierarchy-based model was presented with the application of interpretive structural modelling (ISM) technique to identify contextual relationships among the identified barriers. Out of 12 barriers mainly three barriers are found to be significant.
