Greening the grey: measuring adoption of green logistics in the Indian logistics sector

Abstract:
Environmental concerns have drawn extensive attention around the globe. Consequently, logistics firms are looking for means and methods to green their business operations because of an inherent negative relationship between logistics operations (LO) and the natural environment. Considering the sustained economic growth and logistics challenges in India, the present study aims at developing and empirically validating a scale for green logistics practices (GLPs). Drawing on the relevant literature and previous studies, green logistics (GL) is conceptualised as a three a priori dimensions, i.e., strategic, tactical, and operational measures. With data collected from 312 Indian logistics service providers (ILSPs), two measurement models of GLPs were tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The empirical results indicate that both the first-order and the second-order models of GLPs are reliable and valid. The study provides a parsimonious scale for assessing GLPs. It is expected that the findings would help logistics firms to green their business processes.
