Real-time optimisation for electric vehicle routing problem with dynamic requests

International Journal of Logistics Systems and Management, 2026, vol. 53, issue 4, 588-606

Abstract: The dynamic electric vehicle routing problem (DEVRP) studied in this article is a very recent variant of transport problems with electric vehicles which takes into account the reception of new customers during the day. A new mathematical model and an improved genetic algorithm have been proposed to solve this problem by using the principle of discretisation. Due to the novelty of the studied problem, the efficiency of the proposed approach was first demonstrated by the results found, in the static case, having been able to reach the optimal solutions for 83.33% of 48 benchmarks containing large- and medium-sized instances. This database has been adapted to the dynamic case to solve the DEVRP going from a low to a high degree of dynamism, where the numerical results show that the improved genetic algorithm proposed in this study is able to generate satisfactory solutions in very short time.
