Empirical evaluation of positive organisational politics: an Indian context

Abstract:
Political behaviour is an omnipresent phenomena across the organisations all over the world, however traditionally it has been seen in a negative light affecting job outcomes like increased turnover intention, decrease in organisational commitment, decrease in performance, job stress, etc. This study attempts at investigating the positive aspects of politics at play in the organisation and how it may be helpful in bringing about gains for both the organisations and individuals. It endeavoured to conceptualise and develop questionnaire of positive politics construct and identify the underlying dimensionality. Data was collected from 202 survey respondents, working professionals in Indian corporates. The results yielded a four-factor structure named by authors as- Positive Interaction, Strategic Resources Utilisation,Positive Power Influence and Freedom of expression and the Cronbach alpha score for the entire questionnaire was found to be 0.823. Managerial implications of the study findings and directions for future research are also provided.
