Analysing the Six Sigma methodology as an example to ensure and improve the quality of (Grade 60 - 16 mm) rebar in industry

Abstract: This work evaluates the safety of (Grade 60, 16 mm) reinforcement steel used in (high builds), road, and bridge construction. Tensile strength tests, particularly yield strength, were conducted in multiple laboratories to assess compliance with mechanical specifications. Results showed that most samples exceeded easily the required standards, with some nearing Grade 75 specifications and surpassing the Six Sigma threshold. The study suggests either reconsidering or reducing the current specifications and recommends setting an upper limit to improve testing standards. Given the critical role of rebar in concrete structures, enhancing testing procedures is essential to prevent potential failures. Future research directions are also proposed.
