The contemporary model manager as a new man the creator

Abstract: The paper aims to depict work of a contemporary manager within the framework of critical sociological and philosophical analysis. Referring to classic concepts of labour and productivity, the paper identifies what is historically specific in the work-activities of the model manager. Although performed in a very different cultural context, the work of a contemporary model manager has numerous similarities with homo faber's activities, depicted by Hannah Arendt. A manager adapts homo faber's values and ways of acting into the area of interpersonal relations. Competencies and activities required of managers can be therefore seen as an adaptation of classic cultural patterns within a modern corporate organisation.
