Making situations visible: ethics, truth and decisions

Michel Mestre, Alan Stainer and Lorice Stainer

International Journal of Management and Decision Making, 2005, vol. 6, issue 3/4, 315-325

Abstract: Truth can be constructed in social relations. But how can it be so threatening and, at the same time, be so full of promise? Truth is defined and explored in relation to specifically three distinct components: reality of a situation, freedom that comes when confronting truth with the challenge of discernment and making situations visible. So far, in this area, much of the research carried out has been of a religious nature. It is, therefore, intended to analyse the stated three elements in relation to ethical management decision making, addressing the tensions that can exist between resolving situations, ignoring them or, indeed, going along with the flow.
