The tug of work and family: a study of the sources of the work-family conflict among Indonesian lecturers

Abstract: Mandated by the Constitution of 1945 and encouraged by the raising of the national education budget, Indonesia has been rapidly progressing to develop a well-managed educational system in the movement of education reform. This study involved 127 Indonesian lecturers from 13 provinces in Indonesia to analyse the relationship of work and family demand to the work-family conflict. Multiple regression analysis showed that work and family demand were positively related to the workfamily conflict among Indonesian lecturers. The impact on the work-family conflict from work demand was higher than that from family. Implications toward academicians and policy makers were discussed.
