Abstract: The health issue today is becoming one of the biggest challenges in Indonesia since the Indonesian Government started the Universal Health Coverage programme in the early 2014. In order to support the programme, hospitals should be equipped with a hospital information system (HIS). This research is aimed at synthesising the critical success factors (CSFs) in implementing HIS in hospitals in Indonesia. This quantitative study is using survey and accordingly distributing questionnaires to the Directorate of the Referral Health Effort of the Ministry of Health, three high rank officials of the Hospital Accreditation Commission, 27 high level management officers of two public central hospitals, two public district general hospitals, nine private hospitals and two academicians of public health and computer science. The study shows the top three CFSs of HIS implementation are, in sequence, top management commitment, thorough communication process, and good project management. Also, eight additional CSFs are proposed for future work.
