The impact of presenteeism in work place: an empirical study

Abstract:
This paper describes an empirical study on the existence of presenteeism – a term defined as 'employees keep coming to work while sick'. The presenteeism is different from absenteeism, which has been addressed in published researches, that it covers more than practical issues, but also presents an economical burden for employers in terms of additional high indirect costs that are not perceived by the employees as a cost. A unique questionnaire was developed and used to collect all data for this research. The results of this research are discussed along with managerial socio-economic implications and suggestions for future research in enterprise development and human resource management.
